The main handicap of Raspberry Pi at the moment is the lack of support in its graphics controllers (something that is changing), specifically the drivers for Xorg. This makes it impossible to play video in an X session in the way we are used to.

Referring to the guide in the first post of the thread, in section 4.4 it explains how to play videos with hardware decoding from an X session using omxplayer. The only drawback is that you will have to launch the videos from the console. In addition, the program has no interface, so you will have to manage it using the keyboard and the predefined keys. The advantage is that you can play HD 1080p videos without having to restart or use other programs.

To use it you just have to type: omxplayer video.mp4
Where video.mp4 is the name of the file you want to play.

If the file is in standard definition, it is possible that VLC can play it.

I'm sorry for the delay, although I hope it's in time to offer you other solutions.

It always depends on the money and the criticality you have as requirements for the solution.

I propose what I would do:

    - A lot of money and critical environment

Cabinet with fiber links at 8 Gbits/s over SAN network, all disks in RAID5

    - Critical environment and not a lot of money

Set up GPFS on the machines and share local disks (requires license). It's cheaper than a cabinet but the performance is not the same.

    - Critical environment and no money

Set up a NAS with iSCSI support (with a G8 microserver it's enough) and put the disks with the data there.

    - Non-critical environment and no money

Set up something like "drdb + heartbeat" to synchronize the disks. The disk would be mounted only on one machine in r/w mode and if the service falls the other node detects it, mounts the disks in r/w and then starts the MySQL database (or whatever it is).

    Best regards!!

At tiendaidc.es they can get you all kinds of laptop parts, but it's best to give them the exact reference of the part so they don't get confused. They are in Ajalvir, but it's better to contact them first through the website, phone or email.

Of course, Windows 10 is fully operational (what else would you expect), maybe it's just my impression.

Because I wasn't offered an upgrade to Windows 98 with my W95 license, or to Vista with my WXP license.
No, Windows 10 has been released and is offered for free as an upgrade from W7 and W8/8.1 (or simply for free for users with a license for one of the mentioned environments), which caused a lot of talk until it became clear that it was going to be this way. There is no doubt that there is no better publicity than putting the words "Windows" and "free" in the same sentence. It's something unprecedented.
Even more so, it gets even more complicated with the announcement that it will be free if you reserve it before 7/29/16. But didn't it come out on July 29 of this year?
Besides, where do you reserve it and how do you know you have it reserved?
Easy, you download a series of optional updates (they didn't know which ones until much later, so many downloaded them all) and soon you'll have the update icon in the taskbar.
That's right, now every time you want to check for updates, you can only update the OS, because they forgot that it should be optional.
This has already been corrected, leaving many users with an OS that maybe they didn't want that much.
It announces a very unusual backward compatibility, and puts the ball in the court of manufacturers who must develop drivers for all that outdated hardware. In fact, many have not released drivers for their products until very recently, forcing users to try their luck with drivers from previous operating systems.
There's also the issue of the elements that make up the OS, which are not yet fixed. They will be added, changed or eliminated in future revisions.
The control panel, for instance, could be replaced by "Settings". The interface is still being tweaked and it's not certain that WMC won't come back (with a new look and name), despite not being included right now.

My impression? My impression is that the "real" launch would be next year, and all this is just a way to use users as a crazy "test team", to gather performance data in different configurations; I hope for the sake of a fully-fledged operating system.

Never mind, my own paranoia. :ugly:

Well, it didn't take Seagate long.
They had already announced that they had managed to bring a 10 TB HDD to life, well, everything seems to indicate that it will be available to the public between what is left of this year and the next.
They advance that they suggest it is a unit destined for storage, because it seems that it will be somewhat slow.
However, about the sealed helium, they say that for now there is no talk of it.

Inform yourself well beforehand because some brands put on stickers that break. A friend didn't realize it and lost the warranty that way, even though it was a cloned PC assembled by the store.

Man power you can delete OSX without any problem, but it would be a crime :troll: besides you could not install the firmware updates from Windows.

I don't know what software you use but I assure you that OSX is one of the most complete systems that exist it has the advantages of the variety of software/drivers of Windows along with the possibilities of a kernel base and opensource software of Linux, I don't change it and anything I need from Windows I use Wine or in its default Parallels (although I haven't needed it for a long time) and occasionally I use BootCamp to tinker. I now don't consider buying anything other than a mac mainly for OSX, I won't say anything more.

If not, better than Dell maybe I would even be interested in the new HP Spectre x360 which is in the style of the Lenovo Yoga but at a more reasonable price.

PD. Another admirable thing about OSX is even better than Linux managing RAM, this Air has 2GB and has 4 years, it goes like a shot!, recently I was doing 3D designs with SketchUP, I usually use it with Lightroom, and I don't remember the last time I looked at the system monitor to see the RAM usage.

Well, it was indeed a damn robot. It's already banned in iptables and I've installed a module to limit the number of connections per IP, although I don't know if it will work because the damn thing doesn't register in the logs when the rest of the connections do <:(

The acronym CSM (Compatibility Support Module) refers to the compatibility support module, and responds to the emulation of traditional legacy bios.
New computers with W8 already come installed with UEFI mode (attending to the recent industry standards) which they sell as a security interface, although everything indicates that the only purpose is to avoid installing other operating systems or old devices.
I believe that during the installation of W8 it allows you to enable one mode or another.

    A greeting!
