    Good morning,
Thank you Obione and Woololon for your contributions, now I see it MUCH clearer.
Let's see if I can bring this to a successful conclusion ?
    Best regards

For a gaming rig, I wouldn't buy anything without VRM dissipation, I usually recommend B150M mATX boards, you can get them from 80 euros. The one that doesn't come with M.2 is the ASrock Pro4. With a MSI Bazooka Plus, you can already plug in under an Asus Xonar DGX and even a wi-fi controller (or lan if the integrated one breaks) which are small and would let the graphics card breathe. It only comes with 2 PCIe x1 but they come in the 3rd and 4th connector.

As usual, the B doesn't have a RAID controller. Then it's a matter of looking at the rear panel. The Bazooka Plus doesn't have 5.1 but it does come with USB 3.1 even type C and the MSI Mortar has digital audio output.

I suppose that M.2 prices will go down, a 950 Pro is great but in my opinion what's important is the access time, the sensible thing for the common people is to opt for SATA with a 250GB 750 that costs you less than half.

Then there's the memory limitation (2400+ need Z), 2400 or 2666 are noticeable with some games and don't skyrocket in price. Starting at 100 euros there are Z170 boards. The thing is that if you scrape together for a better graphics card, that's where it will be noticeable. I would even rather save up for a 6600 instead of a 6500, the 6400 is out of the question.

Editing: And then there's the one who wants to plug in 2 graphics cards, look for a Z for lanes and I think that someone who sets up 2 graphics cards is geeky and well-off enough (especially with Pascal since the 1060 doesn't allow SLI and 2 1070s aren't cheap) to bother with OC, which is more noticeable with 2 graphics cards.

Man, currently the only "graphics" card that mounts HBM2 is an nVidia, the Tesla P100. Until AMD's Vega arrives, it may be almost a year.

The latest news about AMD reminds me of Formula 1, where it is always announced that in a couple of years McLaren will be almost on a par with Mercedes, and the truth is that little by little they are improving, will this also be the case for AMD but all of a sudden with this generation and even more so in the following ones thanks to the new process? I didn't used to follow the news about micros, but the latest ones are starting to excite me.

It's funny, because the other day I was reading an article from ArsTechnica where they did an XFire with a 470 and a 480 on an ASUS X99A-II.

Regarding this XFire, I agree that doing it on a PCIe 8x slot... doesn't seem right.

In a private forum inside amd. Last night we were talking about pcie 4.0 that is coming out in a year. And how it would affect zen. Which comes implemented with 3.0 the answer was… the architecture is open. Each module of the processor can be changed to bring out an improved version of the same processor almost without adding production cost. What amd has planned is a soc that depending on demand will vary as the market moves.

In the end they rectify and do not supply the 300w only through the slot, but with help.

The external connector thing is interesting, especially if they implement it in laptops to be able to use dedicated graphics when working as a workstation or gaming computer.

  • Change liquid substrate capacitors to solid ones?

I don't know, I haven't studied electronics for a long time, but I do know that the number of capacitors is related to the number of phases and that the ideal characteristics of these are calculated according to the circuit (http://rohmfs.rohm.com/en/products/databook/applinote/ic/power/switching_regulator/capacitor_calculation_appli-e.pdf). Obviously there are margins, but I don't quite understand the advantage of increasing their capacity, assuming that they are already designed with the optimal values.

The input capacitor will always have the same signal and the output one unless you apply a very high voltage also, perhaps in the case of an aggressive OC… But speaking of replacing with something more reliable, from electrolytic to solid, I understand that the best thing is to respect the capacity and voltage values, and an ESR and ESL equal to or less.

But I say that I am a bit rusty on the subject ?

It's just that the date looks so small... anyway, I'm much better at everything related to AMD. With Intel, I feel like a fish out of water.

I think the same, in the memories it is important that they are 100% stable, otherwise they are a pain in the neck, you can get a blue screen at an isolated moment and ruin your work/game. Besides, you will then have the doubt of which component was the unstable one.

The memory has countless cells, that's why to test that they are stable you need to do tests that last in time and use a lot of memory so that they are exhaustive enough to avoid them failing. The normal thing is to test for a few hours with a specific test. Obviously it is not the same as testing a CPU/GPU.

    @Espinetenbolas:

I'll be more specific... there's a component that's literally going through the grommet... what you have is to verify with another computer that works well all the components separately to isolate the one that's failing.

As I assume you don't have said computer to test with, the solution of taking it to the computer store is the right one because they have the tools (understanding another computer as tools) to verify that it's wrong.

Sometimes it's a silly thing but with what you've tried I would say that unfortunately the motherboard has all the odds of being screwed up or half screwed up... especially if it's second-hand.

    Okay, thanks.

I think you are confusing the integrated ones with AMD's APUs that do need a hefty memory allocation to squeeze the most out of them, but the integrated one on an I5 isn't going to do much more from 1024 on

    ASRock… the doubt offends :osvaisacagar:

Asus as a brand is overrated... it's not a bad brand but it has hundreds of ranges and models... if you want something really cucumber-robust you have to dig deep into your pocket with motherboards that you pay a pretty penny for or extras.

ASRock barely includes extras but the motherboard is of quality and very robust except for the low-end ones.

Then they have the specific range for OC but there aren't any big differences... isolation and the possibility to modify RAM Timings from Windows... the rest of the circuitry is similar or identical to the Extreme range which is the most interesting.

The only gripe or complaint that people usually have is that the UEFI of ASRock is a bit simple-Spartan compared to those of manufacturers like Asus or MSI but that's something they are improving even though it's not that important.

The ones I do recommend avoiding are Gigabyte and EVGA because lately I've only read bad things and problems with immature BIOS... in any case it's always better to be informed.

They have more threads, more cache, more speed, and more power.

If money is no object, the 6700K is the better option; otherwise, a 6600K with a little OC for gaming can match or surpass the 6700K, although these have a much better OC margin since Intel classifies them by consumption and then brands them.

In essence, what I mean is that if the number of threads really matters, a 5820K would be a much better option, but as of today, that's not the case... what counts are the Mhz and the performance per core, and that crown is currently held by the 4790K and the 6700K when compared at stock speeds with any other processor.

An i5 is true that if you increase the Mhz, you can get a lot of performance out of it, but as I mentioned, it's a lottery and they generally overclock less than the 6700K.

In the end the answer was No. And in a case like yours even less so.
It doesn't matter much the format, there are almost all options in all formats and what matters is what the board brings and other details that depend on the orientation you want to give it.

It only matters in terms of clear space, if it's going to be a board for up to quad-sli it will need space for the slots, and other aspects related to the space available, but as they tell you there are even powerful itx boards.
The size matters in other things…... in the trunk of the car for example.

By the way happy new year.

    Regards.
