I agree with kynes, I think that in terms of performance/price, the i5-8400 seems to be the best option for a quick platform replacement, and if we take into account that the price of the board is in dollars, at the exchange rate it is supposed to be even cheaper.
If the boards are not skyrocketing lately, maybe it's time to go for the change.

    Best regards!

Lately, perhaps due to senility, it is (the indie titles) one of the few things I like.
The common note in those projects that do not go beyond beta, and some not even alpha, is that the author does not consider a realistic work environment; the mechanics are too complex for an amateur group, whose enthusiasm surpasses the seriousness and knowledge necessary for the project.

To be charitable, I will not put in the same bag the scammers that swarm pages like Patreon, and who only aspire to the economic jackpot to then disappear and abandon the company.

Keeping with the really good things about these games, (excluding the open-source versions of commercial games) is that they bring to the player approaches, mechanics, and themes that are very difficult to achieve in commercial titles, which I don't think I'm wrong in saying that they are already satisfied simply with offering more graphic effects and more scripted movements.

@cobito "and they have failed"... and the emoticons?

People think that processors are infallible devices, but the reality is quite different. If you take a look at the Haswell bug list, you'll see that it's basically a 5-page manual of failures that aren't even solved yet, where they tell you how not to do certain things to avoid problems. In the Piledriver architecture, the 256-bit AVX set introduces a delay of about 20 cycles in each execution. And beware of the patch for all of you who have an Atom prior to the Bay Trails because for every floating-point instruction that is executed, a NOP operation is introduced that keeps the micro doing nothing for one cycle. That means that the calculation of reals in the Atoms goes at half the speed of what it should, but since no one uses the Atoms for that, the topic isn't talked about much.

It's normal for there to be bugs in processors. Sometimes they are seen (like this one) and other times they go unnoticed or are only visible for software development. I find it strange that AMD hasn't said anything about this, especially if they supposedly solved the problem.

I read that it has been the version with the most changes of all time. The support for rx vega before the hardware comes out is something normal in linux. This kernel will be carried by some distros that will have support for a few months and maybe even years. Not having support for those gpus during that time would be a problem. Intel does the same thing by putting in drivers for integrated graphics chips that are not yet on the market. In fact, sometimes rumors about new products and release dates are based precisely on the support given to linux. It's a shame that nvidia continues with its stance of firm control over its software.

This kind of failure is common. Don't blame the windowserons. It's not a platform-specific failure as I've read elsewhere and people believe it because it first appeared on the debian mailing lists. It's a hardware bug that affects all systems. But to reproduce the failure, you need to get a compiled code that is very difficult to obtain, which is to have a very small loop (less than 64 microinstructions). What the sky/kabylake does is to infinitely parallelize this code, saturating the CPU resources.

ha ha ha! you have to be crazy. I can already imagine the genius who was in charge of the topic. He chooses those versions and periodically updates them. One day he stops receiving kernel updates and says "well, today there are no updates". He continues not to receive them and thinks "you can't see how good the version is that they don't find any flaws". And after some time he stops even looking because they haven't had any updates in 5 years. And of course if there are no updates it's because there are no security flaws.

At 300 napos per hosted website it's not a bad price for the tedious maintenance they were doing. Next time they will invest that million in something more productive.

@palotes I can't think of a better one: mature software, a great community, lots of good documentation. It comes standard with almost all the software I need (except NodeJS which came with an outdated version on Debian 8). With Debian 9 I won't need to resort to any external repositories. That translates to security and easy maintenance.

Ubuntu LTS is another good candidate, but I don't see what advantages I get from using a Debian derivative over the original. The only drawback is support for recent hardware. When I switched to the current server a few months ago, Linux 3.16 didn't recognize everything and has sometimes been a bit problematic. Once again, with Debian 9 all those problems should be a thing of the past.
