    Hello!
The fiber optic cable can't be bent too much, folded, etc., you will lose the signal or it will be bad.
If you want to place it through the socket, the bend angles must be greater than 45 degrees.
Cutting and using normal cables is a bad idea. It's better to install it whole.

Thanks to everyone for the collaboration, but I think I have already found what I want.
In the end, neither 2.5 disks nor anything.

As a curious fact, the wireless Telex already sent data by air, surely before that time. It is closer to a fax than to a 56K modem but it was the first wireless data method for the general public (for companies with money at the beginning, let's go).

Well, look where I am now, I got a slap on the wrist for being too clever. In short, I messed up the array by removing an SSD and adding it to the other server. How did I know something was going to happen, so I recorded it. Please excuse the recording, as I was holding the phone in one hand and the server in the other. I'll leave you two links, one where the array automatically reconfigures the SSD drive, having added the logical unit from f5 (when the ILO loads) and in the other a disaster, luckily I have a backup of everything.

With how good it is on a PC, why would I get involved in this mess.

@dixman said in Replace a HDD in a Server with Raid 1???:
We have found a new HDD on amazon and when it arrives we will change it but I have doubts...

just plug it in and the controller will sync everything or do I have to do something????

Come on "mushroom" ? you will have to plug in the new disk, go into the bios of the controller and indicate that the new disk is part of that raid and let it rebuild

It should go "alone", but it's not a bad idea to make a copy of the important stuff before rebuilding as kynes says

@cobito said in Cheap SSD doubt:

Then there are the NVMe adapters that cost about 25€ and that look like they do have some kind of controller or buffer to convert protocols since, obviously, they convert from SATA to NVMe and vice versa.

Exactly, those would have to be looked at closely to see how much they can affect performance and so on.
Remember that my comment about these adapters came in relation to the specific case of laptops that want to upgrade the disk (same size) and only have sata 2.5", in that case they could optionally mount an M2 ngfc-sata with the adapter if they see better options in M2 than in native 2.5". The thing is that there are fewer and fewer M2-sata disks now that I think about it.

@_neptunno_ I definitely think so, even for an individual who wants to have something online, these functionalities are a breeze, but for a professional, I don't even need to say it.

If you end up discovering something, please comment.

    Regards.

@juezdred I think RAID 5 is quite balanced for having 3 or 4 disks. It depends a lot on your storage needs and data security. In the end, the RAID level depends a lot on what you want. If with 2TB you think you will have enough, RAID 1 can serve you. If you want the possibility to expand and maintain some redundancy, RAID 5 is a good option.

I've been using a home NAS for a couple of years that runs on OpenMediaVault and it works perfectly. I have a RAID 5 set up. A few months ago, a hard drive failed and I was able to rebuild the volume without any problems. And recently I expanded it (from 3 to 4 disks) and it was quite simple. In essence, I have experienced all the more or less delicate operations without any surprises.

Then you have FreeNAS (which seems to now be called TrueNAS) which, due to its use of ZFS, has some pretty interesting features like compression and deduplication. Depending on the type of data you are going to put in, you can save a lot of space, but it has some drawbacks like it being more difficult to expand.

In my case, what I wanted was simplicity, reliability, stability and ease of expansion, OMV was what I was looking for.

@cobito Bought as new from a second-hand store, plug and play. Plug in, put cables and we already have everything up and running. By the way it's from that brand, it didn't reach twelve euros metallic with five 1000mbs ports.

@_Neptunno_ I had two scassi in raid 0 and one for storage and I never had any problems with the raid. I think it was on Windows Server 2000.

Finally they lent me a SATA/USB adapter, I plugged it in and it works great. I started looking for the Gigabyte page and I see that my SSD is not listed. I have left a query with Gigabyte's technical support to see what can be done. Thanks for your time Fassou.

Absolutely true. I suppose that with the bombardment of news about how Chia is blowing up SSDs, I ended up mixing up work with wool.

It has already been corrected, thanks for the warning.

what a lack of shame these have. I'm going to look for a review that is surely of the first models that were faster and more powerful. The same thing happens with the playstation 5, some are noisier than others and on top of that, those who did reviews at the beginning were sent the quieter ones.
