    In order not to open another thread, I'll use this one.

    I've programmed a small tool to help choose a distribution. It's based on the /g/ scheme.

    Any suggestions, bug reports or comments are welcome.

    Thanks for the notes, oscarbui. I find the topic of setting up SSH particularly interesting and will include it in the next edition.

    The topic of not allowing root login personally doesn't work for me, because I manage the file system quite frequently with FISH and I need to be able to access it as root to modify certain files.

    Limiting the number of attempts seems very interesting to me. A few months ago I wrote a bash script that read the ssh log periodically and if it saw more than 10 failed login attempts from an IP, it banned that IP with IPtables. I think your solution is more practical, to be honest.

    Best regards and I'm glad you like the guide.

    I'll watch the video tomorrow, I have to save 3g data, but I'll make comments like abuelo cebolleta ;D.

    I can't remember if I started with Mandrake 7.1 or 8.0/8.1, what is certain is that it was thanks to this forum and the great movement that was here in the early years about this system. Today we are no longer so divided between Windows and Linux, but most of us have used one or the other at some point, in my case almost 50% and in others it leans much more towards one of the two, more towards Windows than Linux as always.

    Since then everything has changed a lot, Linux is more popular although the usage share has not improved much, but in many schools Linux was not even known and now it is almost always touched in computer science modules. I used KDE, I stopped liking it and preferred Gnome, and now I don't like Gnome either, I'm more of a Cinnamon or Mate (they are more classic Gnome than Gnome). Before you had silly games, now I have Steam with Civilization V native, without Wine or bagpipes. The driver issue is clearly something that was and will continue to be a problem, but it has improved a lot.

    If something hasn't changed is that I liked Linux and I still like it, and I see that Windows 10 is not going to change this, rather confirm it.

    You can't imagine the week I've had, and as you rightly say Fassou, that was something I was already afraid of.
    The most damning thing is that when I asked by phone (at the price of a litre of petrol per minute) if they used a different image or disc to the copy of Windows 7 that I bought they assured me they didn't.
    From there everything else came, completely unnecessarily because I wouldn't have minded patching the copy or finding one of those that are out there.
    It's clear that being legal isn't my thing, and I refer to the evidence.

    Having said that, and again thanking you for your help, I managed to get someone to come and help me (for a fee), and to check that indeed with my legal and formal copy there was no way, but taking into account that what one pays for is the sticker, I now have a copy of a version with which (this time yes) I have managed to install the OS and recover the functionality as it should be.

    I want a website, really. :love::love::love:

    Thanks Fassou. I will follow your advice, I have already installed the programs and made a disk and a system image like before, but apparently I will repeat it with another external program, thanks.

    Thanks to all for your responses. At the institute they offered to leave it there and they would look at it (a technician). I don't know in the end how they resolved it, but he has been able to log back in again and keeping the programs installed.

    I'm saving this post in favorites in case something similar happens again some other day.

    Hello,

    Have you tried by chance: /sbin/chkconfig proftpd off?

    I found some commands on the net, I'm not sure if that one or another will be useful to you, but to try...

    !
    ! To stop proftpd:
    ! /sbin/service proftpd stop
    ! to stop it from starting with the system:
    ! /sbin/chkconfig proftpd off
    ! to start proftpd with the system:
    ! /sbin/chkconfig proftpd on
    ! to manually start proftpd:
    _
    /sbin/service proftpd start_
    ! and to restart it:
    ! /sbin/service proftpd restart
    !

    Best regards!

    I reply to myself, and maybe it will be useful to someone with the same motherboard:

    1 - We install Mac OS X with the motherboard and without the graphics connected. With the help of "GraphicsEnabler=Yes -x"
    2 - We patch with Multibeast
    3 - We restart to see that everything is OK.
    4 - We place the graphics in the PC and indicate that the PCIe should be the main one.
    5 - We start up and enjoy MAC OS X.

    Do not post links where they talk about solutions for warez versions of programs, even if they may work for the original ones.

    This time I have deleted it, but next time you will receive negative points for it.

    Regards! and please fix it.

    In case you are interested, here I leave you another subtitled video.

    On this occasion it is a question and answer session that took place a couple of years ago between Linus Torvalds and the audience. The talk takes place at the entrepreneurship center of the Finnish university of Aalto and is focused on Linux from a business perspective, although many other topics are covered where Linus narrates some quite interesting stories (and some that I include as quite impactful).

    This is the famous video in which Linus tells Nvidia to go to hell.

    @Fassou:

    I don't know how you have it configured to start, but if you run it from the **Task Scheduler**, you have an option (in Properties -> Configuration) called "Stop running task if not stopped when requested" that takes care of it.

    Salu2!

    Hello, I run it from the start of Windows, but you've given me an idea with the task scheduler, I've created a scheduled task that triggers a script to kill the process I want to load during user logoff and it works, so thank you. ?

    @cobito:

    You can try adding that "escritorio.exe" to the registry at HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Run

    Including it in the startup I had already tried, but it does not load, I will try the option you mention, to see how it goes, thanks.

    @darumo_cll:

    Hello, I have the conceptronic Bluetooth USB and I want to use it with a GPS.

    My problem is that it assigns me the com48 to the Bluetooth serial port and the GPS program does not let me go beyond COM12.

    I would like to know if there is any way to delete the first 33 ports that I do not use and do not appear in the device manager so that when I connect the Bluetooth serial port, it assigns me a COM port below.

    The conceptronic driver does not allow changing the port number.

    Thanks

    Hello darumo,

    Did you find the solution?, because I have a similar problem only that I am not dealing with a GPS but with a biomedical recording equipment, in the same way it gives me very high ports and the program does not admit them.

    Thanks

    This has reminded me of my younger days when I installed Windows 95 on my 486 with 400mb of hard drive. There was already that utility in Windows and I spent the day running it to see if it could grab some kb. Sometimes it even freed up a megabyte or two.

    I see that the orders of magnitude of the junk that Windows stores have changed quite a bit.
