I just saw this thread and it seems like I forgot to reply with the results. The PC is alive and kicking. I use it quite often and it hasn't given me any problems since the surgery.

The reason it was only working frozen was because the area where the integrated was was quite damaged and some tracks were joined. With a very fine punch I was separating and cutting the loose tracks. Finally I cleaned the area very well to make sure there were no more unwanted contacts.

Now it doesn't detect any integrated wired network card (as it should be) and it works perfectly with the Wifi network card and a PCMCIA wired network card.

The truth is that since Linux it has a very good performance, I can watch HD videos and run heavy programs as long as they don't require graphic power.

I took it off the signature but it's a 15.4" with a Core 2 Duo at 1.6 GHz, 2 Gb of RAM and a GMA950. A machine that has been at the forefront for 6 years and lately I use quite a lot.

Check the inverter connection (it's usually at the bottom of the screen, between the hinges).

If the connection is correct, it's faulty and needs to be replaced.

In terms of quality/price it has no rival. If you want more inches you can look at the Samsung tab or even the Nexus 10. There is a power struggle between the generic drivers that Windows installs for Samsung and those of KIES.
Possibly in one of the updates, Windows has wiped out KIES.

The ideal thing now is to uninstall KIES, restart, run a registry cleaner (ccleaner, Gladys you use, etc). Now you reinstall Kies and restart, then disconnect the PC from the internet, start KIES and, with the phone active, connect it with its original cable to a rear USB connection of the computer.
Check that the PC has detected it with the characteristic USB connection sound (the ding-dong). Wait a few moments and let it finish recognizing it.
If everything has gone well, it will have already detected it, in case not, use the connection tools of KIES. When it has connected correctly, you can already reconnect to the internet.

in the end it was easier than I thought, this was the process:

• faulty 640GB drive in the laptop

• new 1TB external drive connected via usb

• HD Clone Free Edition 4.3 software + HDClone_4.3_Manual (English) + Cloning Manual with HDClone 3.6 Professional Edition (Spanish), installed on the laptop

• from Windows 7, open the program and make a "disk-to-disk" copy (sector by sector). the process is slow but there were no problems

• when the process was finished, turn off and unplug the laptop and change the disks

• turn on the laptop, wait for W7 to recognize the new disk and restart

• create a new partition with the unused space and done, new disk with all data and programs

I think you are pasting the links incorrectly because when you click on the link it doesn't take you to a website, it says for example: YouTube which obviously is not a youtube address because it lacks the numbers that indicate it is a video or another.
