For your use I don't know what will be better, but don't rule out the Ryzen platform.

I know I got here late, but if you haven't bought it yet, I would put a better motherboard with the X470 in the Ryzen, and better power phases. And regarding the RAM, at least 3200 CL16, for Ryzen 3000. Besides, the 3000 series, except for the G series, doesn't have integrated graphics, so take advantage of one you have at home (at least 8600GT for Windows 10 effects,) and you're ready

      You've been lucky.

Many people who were using their webcam with W7, found out when they switched to W10 that it no longer worked.

Others even got to see it work, and lost it after some major Update, despite buying it as compatible with the new OS.

Unless things changed in recent months, I know of cases of people who fell for the deals on some Logitech models, and found out the second case I mention.

In my case, an old Microsoft webcam, still works despite everything.

      Regards!

They all cost more or less the same. Choose the one you like the most, or the cheapest. But keep in mind that now they are 400Gb. You'll have to see how long it took to reach that size, and choose accordingly. For price/quantity, I would go for Gdrive. It works very well and doesn't give problems. But it's a matter of looking at how much the expansions cost.

I do not recommend that idea of having an external drive for backups at all.

Besides, only 2.5 drives can be powered by USB without additional power; 3.5 drives must be powered by their corresponding adapter, making them as cumbersome as if they were using external SATA.

My suggestion, since you do not want to set up a NAS, look for a case that allows you to set up a RAID1, or perhaps a cloud service.

@radge You can decrypt it on any other site as long as you remember the private password of course. Anyway cobian backup will not stop working, it just stopped having support and for the moment it has no updates. The last version is cobian backup 11 and it works on windows 10.

      Hello:

Which disks are you backing up to? Because with the hds space you have, I don't think it will go very well. Calculate that if you copy the 2Tb one to the others, I don't know if the program will let you send it to different disks. Mostly because the program won't see them as a single disk. Back in the day, there was Linux LVM, which was a software RAID for computers to which many disks were added periodically, but you didn't want to relocate the data every time you did it. But I'm talking to you from 15 years ago. Now I don't know if it's still being done. Mostly because the price of hdds has dropped considerably.
For what you ask, the first thing will be to get disks of the same size, set up a raid, and then use the program you want for backups. One that I used a lot in its day is this one, with a tutorial from a forum colleague:

      https://computerhoy.com/paso-a-paso/software/sincroniza-facilmente-tus-archivos-freefile-sync-18791

Let's see if this one serves you.

Well, I can't think of any updated antivirus that you can install without an internet connection. Maybe it would be better for you to take out the hard drive from that computer and from another computer run an antivirus and clean it well.

And once you finish, put it back on and start it in safe mode with network functions and run some antimalware tool, or some specific utility depending on your problem.

I also recommend that you run these utilities afterwards:

      https://www.infospyware.com/antivirus/malwarebytes/

      Best regards!!

Perfect, that's what I'm going to do ?

Always buy one that allows you to use a DLNA server. I don't recommend a nas to anyone. You'll miss that utility later. I changed a thecus 5200pro because I couldn't put a DLNA server on it, and because it didn't have power. I put together a celeron centrino with 512 of ram and even so it doesn't recover. That is, it's about 15 years old, more or less. But it works

I think it's as simple as right-clicking on the folder or drive you want to encrypt, Properties, Advanced, and there you have a checkbox with the option "Encrypt content to secure data". Then if you want you can also make a backup of the encryption key in case you forget it.

Now I am not with Windows, but in the task manager (which comes up with CTRL+ALT+DEL) you can see the SVCHOST.EXE process and if you right-click you can go to the specific process that hangs from it to see what it is about. SVCHOST.EXE is a Windows process that manages other sub-processes, and it is normal for there to be several with different consumptions. One of them, and in some circumstances the one that consumes the most RAM is WUAUCLT.EXE, which is simply the Windows Update service.

@Bm4n said in Windows script to stop a service:

The easiest thing is to disable that service in the system services as shown here in the first way: http://computerstepbystep.com/upnp_device_host_service.html But you lose the uPnP service that is used for applications to open the ports they need on the router, the solution is not that, that is just a patch that leaves you useless any application that uses that service. Somehow you have a bigger problem like a virus, some failed update, the router firmware with some vulnerability, a program that misuses the protocol, etc. I would check what the real cause is and try to solve it.

PD. It could also be something not related to this service you say, like it could be https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2889748/high-memory-usage-by-the-svchost.exe-process-after-you-install-windows or any other problem related to Svchost.

Thanks, I have windows7 professional with all updates to date.
I use nod32 with a license for antivirus.

I've run a scan with nod and another with malwarebytes and it says I don't have any suspicious elements.

What else can I do? Thanks
