    I found a site.
Well, don't be surprised if Judge Dreed drops by and responds. What I doubt is that starball will show up. The last I heard from him was five years ago and it was a bad situation with the moderators on H2M (how strange is that?) :face_palm_tone2:

I advise you to change the heatsink. Update the motherboard's BIOS and improve the air circulation in the tower. The original heatsink is designed for an ambient temperature of 20 degrees. Above that.... almost in all homes... it struggles. It is not a design flaw. It is a common sense issue. That is why the latest am3+ that are on sale come with a much better heatsink.

Great post, and congratulations on the courage and the result :thumbsup_tone2:

Same for the temperatures, I would have opted directly for something with dual fans, like the H100i, but it is clear that where there is a good air cooler ?

@Rules said in High temperatures on i7 4790K:

I am finishing up the tests and will make a new thread with all the results, OC temperatures and a comparison of an RL H80i vs Noctua NHu12 (You will be surprised....)

I changed the Noctua NH-U12 for an H80 quite a while ago and the temperatures, if I remember correctly, are very similar, right? At least on my 2500k.

    Ok,
I have seen people use the metal base of a chassis where the motherboard and the back with the slots for expansion cards and the output of the various PC connectors are anchored. I have one that I am going to use. For the rest of the components I will invent something ?
    Anyway, I hope I don't get a flat tire ;D

You are absolutely right about the off topic, I have been to other forums with section names like "Overclocking and Mod" and I got a little confused. Sorry for the faux pas.
If you think it's appropriate, you could include it in the "Modding" section

    Thanks again!

    Good afternoon to all.
Thanks to the advice of all of you, the problem has been solved.
In the end I bought an Artic Freezer 13, capable of dissipating 200W, starting from the base that my processor with overclocking is around 130W, there should not be a problem.
Said and done, just turning on the machine the first impression was good, reducing in vacuum a couple of degrees compared to the "factory" one of 95W.
The "fire" test was even better, with the micro at maximum load it did not exceed 56-57 degrees, thus lowering almost 15 degrees!!
Case closed, I just want to comment that the heatsink was around 30€, as you had commented, more than enough for this overclocking

    Thanks to all!!

Well, try it at 4.3 but, think about the maximum under stress test. It's not good enough for it to spike but for it to stay at 60 and a bit with a game. Let's see if you're going to start decompressing something big and give it a good warm-up.

OC is limited to the Z series… in this case Z87 or Z97.

Or to put it another way, with the H81 you can't do OC... the chip is capped in that aspect.

The RX480 is a very very powerful graphics card with limited OC capability.

To start, you need modified BIOS to unlock the TDP and Vcore.

Even so, it seems that the 14nm FinFet process is not very polished or that the Polaris architecture has not been optimized enough because with liquid nitrogen you can barely get 200Mhz more than reflow.

In any case, the companion Javisoft has already done an extensive review: http://foro.hardlimit.com/reviews/t-review-amd-rx-480-by-javisoft-77684.html

Which apparently will soon be expanded to add RL and the use of a MOD-BIOS to unleash all the potential and see where it goes.

I suppose he will comment on voltages and consumption with OC which is what seems to interest you.

The voltage thing is not at all far-fetched, because there are many processors that on modest motherboards, as soon as you try to overclock them beyond a minimum, they just won't boot. If you could test on another motherboard that allowed you to modify the Vcore, you would know for sure.

By the way, don't rule out updating the BIOS to the latest version, maybe there is some function related to voltage in the latest revision available, if you don't have it already.

    Best regards!

Ok, many thanks Espinetenbolas, you have been very kind in answering me. I suspected that it could be something like that, but I was not sure. Well, I will continue to use it as it came from the factory then. Thanks again.

Yes. It seems that for Phenom II, I need a motherboard with Socket AM2+ or AM3.

Negative, there are AM2 motherboards without the + that do support some of the Phenom II.
My own for example is just AM2 and supports up to the PII of 95Vatios, but I've looked a bit and from gigabyte they are the nf570 and the ones with amd chipset nothing more, not even the ga m59 support them, bad luck.

    @ivan_r2d2:

    "…M3.

Although on the Gigabyte page there is a note at the end that says:

If you install an AMD AM3 / AM2 + processor on an AM2 motherboard, the system bus will be reduced from HT3.0 (5200 MT / s) to HT1.0 (2000 MT / s); However, the frequency of the AM2 + CPU will not be affected.

Therefore, I think it won't be worth it.

    Nevertheless, thanks for your help.

    Greetings to all...
    ivan_r2d2

That is the system bus that is still sufficient, but it doesn't matter in your case that it doesn't support them.

Maybe it's worth starting to save and look around for cheap motherboard+cpu+ram combos that might interest you, don't spend a dime on the current one that will compensate you very little, better to save it.

    See you later.
