What a nice competition ? Without the resurgence of AMD they would continue to pwn users.

It is still curious how complex it is to visualize a single transistor and how easy and fast it is to manufacture billions of them.

@kynes said in Open processors are gaining followers:

Today it might have worked better, since multi-threaded programming has developed a lot, but back then it was a suicide and they ended up going bankrupt.

I think that's where their problem was. They were visionaries, but the technology that we have now didn't exist. The thing with 8 instructions in parallel, is that what AMD wants to use now to increase their performance in the ryzen 3?

From what I've read, not exactly. I think what AMD wants to do is what IBM does with the Power, like a hyperthreading of 4 threads per core to take advantage of the units that are not active, and widen the cores with more decoding units, integer, floating point... not 2 as until now. They are still 64-bit instructions that internally distributes them and executes them as it can.

Transmeta's thing was more heavy, their instructions internally were 256 bits, to package 8 of 32 bits per cycle, so if they couldn't parallelize in the interpreter, they put nop instructions to fill in.

And yet they are still more expensive than Ryzen. Who would have thought that 2 years ago. And on top of that, the HEDT, which have two CCX per chiplet in the 39x0, the read/write in memory is almost double that of the 3700/3800

Well, I definitely conclude the tests and for now I'll leave it with the following configuration:

    • OC Manual 4.15GHz
    • 1.25v vCore (llc4) + 1.075v vSoc (llc3)
    • RAM 3666 16-15-15-15-28-48 @ Config de la hoja de excel
    • FCLK 3666 1:1 Coupled mode with the RAM.

    RESULTS:

    • Aida64: Read 54781, Write 29275, Copy 51734, Latency 65.9ns
    • CB15: 2206
    • CB20: 4949
    • 3DMark Time Spy CPU: 10853
    • Realbench 2.44 hwbot: (Image) 213165, (Encoding) 346093, (OpenCL) 116437, (Heavy MultiTasking) 275377, (System Score) 214480
    • Shadow of the tomb raider Complete: 166 (General average), 315 (Average cpu)

Perhaps later when they finish debugging the bios and the PBO I'll give it another chance, for now I'll leave it like this since with PBO I get the same frequency in multicore, 41.5x, but it puts 0.1v more than necessary... That is, in monocore it reaches 43.5, but since I don't need it I prefer to have it like this and cooler.

Here I leave the captures of the tests:

    CONFIG:

    AIDA

Very good guide to understand many parameters that are unknown with Intel. I switched in January/2019 from an i5 4690K to a Ryzen 7 2700X and I couldn't be happier. I use the memory at 3600 that comes in the board's QVL... and everything is great.

    Best regards!

And you take them to 3600 with the 2700x? If so, you've got a very, very good IMC, it's usually difficult to go beyond 3400 without getting errors in the HCI... have you checked that just in case?

    Best regards!

@boncoe said in Should I format to upgrade the pc?:

Well for now I'll go with a Gigabyte Rx570 4gb Bulpack that I find at the beginning of the year for 2 bucks. I've been saving to upgrade practically everything except the case which is a corsair 600T and the power supply which is an Ocz of 700w.
Later I will renew the graphics card but for now I have to wait.........

Good graphics card, if for the Ryzen a bit short but depending on the resolution you play it's effective. And better to wait because now with the recent launch of the Navi and the restructuring of the RTX there's a good mess.

Yes probably a bit short for the 3600, the resolution I usually play at is 1080 full hd with a 60Hz monitor. As for the graphics card I already told you that when I recover it will be the next thing I change, but as you say now there's a mess of a thing with the cards and the prices I don't even mention. The mid-range has almost disappeared and now it's either low or high

@hayo In the specific case of AMD, you can request that they send you a compatible processor to update the UEFI, and then return it.

On the other hand, in stores like Aussar the UEFI update is free.

From this I deduce, and I emphasize that I do not know it firsthand, that if the motherboard does not recognize the processor, it will not configure the start to the necessary point to be able to update it.

I certainly don't get any benefit from that little bit of boost or PCIe 4.0. With a 480GB MP510 I can get miles for less than 100 bucks. Then at the price of the graphics cards, for PCIe 4.0 to start to be noticeable that's going to be a rip-off. I honestly will change if I don't run Cyberpunk well in a year, to a 3600 for example with an MSI B450, for 140€ because it comes with a good sound card with the Pro Carbon, because a Mortar of a hundred or so already moves it. And memory is more of the same, you can find BBB 3000 from 75€. We're talking about a 12-core for over 200€ and even less in a combo of motherboard + RAM to run it. P.D.: What a crappy fans on the chipset xD

@amd125 Correct xD I've done a few like that. From taking the PC out to the balcony when it was freezing, to putting the whole PC (back in the day a Pentium II 333) inside the industrial freezer at the restaurant my parents had. Then I also put the RL's radiator inside the kitchen freezer and not much more xD then I got professional and bought the Mach II in hardlimit and later the Vapochill LS.

@rul3s exactly, what I noticed the most was the stability in the framerate, without any dips.

@garfield said in X470 motherboard for a Ryzen 2600 and in the future a Ryzen 3000:

Very different from those of Scithe. I have two Ninja, one Rev.A and one B and they do not have AM4 mounts. And I believe they would be more than capable of being able to dissipate them. A shame. They will die in the drawer

I have the exact same problem, at that time a friend got the Scyte Ninja v1, I got the Noctua NHU12.
Some time later when he renewed his PC the Scyte ninja was left in a drawer as we did not have support for the new sockets, despite using the same system as the new versions (read in forums) in customer service they told us that nanai, that neither for free nor paying would they send them to us.
I will never buy anything from Scythe again.

By the way, I already have all the material and I am doing tests, as soon as I have good conclusions I will tell you, for now, I leave you a FireStrike with the 2070:
